Further details on the YooMedia and Sportingbet interactive TV deal
Following the announcement, on the 26th November, YooMedia Plc wishes to add
further details about its agreement to bring Sportingbet Group to interactive
television (iTV).
The three-year exclusive partnership agreement has generated an increased level
of interest amongst shareholders and investors. The initial plans of the deal
are to deliver fixed odds gambling games, taken from the 'Games Room', onto all
UK digital interactive TV platforms. The 'Games Room' is a very successful
gaming portal operated by Sportingbet on the internet at www.thegamesroom.com.
As with previous partnership deals, revenues will be shared between Sportingbet
and YooMedia after deduction of certain costs including cable or satellite
platform costs and UK betting tax. Each party will bear its own development and
deployment costs required to deliver the product onto digital TV.
The service is planned to be available across all digital platforms including
Cable, Satellite and Digital Terrestrial. YooMedia owns and operates the only
games channel on Freeview, so uniquely it can also offer certain games from the
'Games Room' on Channel 53.
YooMedia is currently in discussion with digital platforms and the first
application is expected to launch on cable in the first half of next year.
Gambling on interactive TV is the largest single generator of interactive TV
revenues. In a recent survey KPMG forecast betting via iTV to be worth £2.8bn by
the year 2007. According to Datamonitor, gambling will continue to be the most
lucrative application in the European iTV market, generating approximately three
times the revenues of games during 2007.
