Launch of New ADX Service
e-district.net PLC
12 June 2000
LAUNCH OF E-DISTRICT.NET'S ADX WITH DOMINO'S PIZZA
CAMPAIGN
e-district.net's newly developed advertising tool 'adX'
bringing moving picture and sound to interactive TV for
the first time, is launched with a campaign for Domino's
Pizza, the world's leading pizza delivery company.
The six month UK and Ireland campaign will be the first
to make use of the adX technology conceived by e-
district.net, owners and operators of
LeisureDistrict.net, the leading global leisure and
entertainment channel. The advertisement will initially
be seen on the Cable & Wireless and Telewest channels.
Domino's Pizza advertising was planned and bought by
Quantum New Media. Sales of adX are handled by both e-
district and Engage, the leading provider of next
generation online marketing solutions. adX will be sold
throughout the UK from the end of June and in the USA
shortly after.
adX has been specially designed to take advantage of
broadband technology. LeisureDistrict.net users who
access the site via Interactive TV will view full-page TV
style advertisements including moving picture and sound
where possible. These will be shown at convenient breaks
as the user experiences the site.
The user will view a short teaser before being able to
return to the core site content. Interested users will
be able to request more information or to purchase a
product direct from the advertisement. With the Domino's
Pizza campaign, users will be able to order a pizza
directly through the service. Final contracts between
e-district.net and Domino's Pizza will be exchanged next
week.
adX advertisements become an integral part of the users
experience on the site. The advertisements will appear
automatically on the user's screen without any prompt.
Unlike superstitial and pop-up advertisements available
across the Web, there is no interruption to the user's
experience of LeisureDistrict.net prior to viewing adX.
adX is predicted to have a much higher response rate than
conventional banner advertising. Trials of a full-page
advertisement without moving picture or sound on
LeisureDistrict.net achieved click-through rates
averaging 9% as compared to an average of 0.5% for
traditional banner advertisements. adX is expected to
achieve even higher response rates because of the
engaging nature of the advertisement.
adX will offer increased targeting opportunities for
marketers. This will be achieved through the information
e-district gains from its users registering and analysis
of their viewing habits. e-district will also be making
use of Engage AdManager a powerful ad manager system, to
deliver and manage its online advertising campaigns
Steve Laitman, chief executive of e-district.net said,
'Until now, advertising on the Internet has chiefly been
limited to banner or pop-up advertisements that do not
attract the attention of
viewers. Having an advertising medium that captures your
entire attention is a very powerful tool. Advertisers
will be able to target advertisements at specific users
based on information collected from those users.'
Steve Laitman concluded, 'We are confident that adX will
prove to be a significant benefit to advertisers seeking
to gain a high return on investment from their
advertising campaigns.'
