E-DISTRICT.NET PLC SIGNS AGREEMENT
PLANETWEB INC.
e-district.net plc ('e-district'), a leading provider of global interactive
entertainment services and related applications, has signed an agreement with
Planetweb Inc., an open systems provider of software and services for the
Internet appliance market, to make available its content and global community
to SegaR DreamcastTM users in the United States.
The Planetweb Internet browser, used by companies including Sega of America,
grants consumer electronic devices access to the Internet and to device-
specific Internet portals. The Sega Dreamcast, which ships in the United
States with a 56K modem and the Planetweb Internet browser, has sold over 2
million units in North America since its launch in September of 1999. The e-
district.net plc agreement with Planetweb means that Leisuredistrict.net will
be a core content component on Planetweb's Dreamcast portal site,
dreamcast.planetweb.com.
The agreement confirms e-district's position as a leading innovator in the
interactive market place across all platforms and is the latest in a series of
ventures by e-district with high profile organizations, including the
provision of controlled community internet access to cable platform subscriber
services, including Cable & Wireless Communications plc, and Telewest plc, and
the provision of content to ISPs, including Freeserve.
Steve Laitman, Chief Executive of e-district, said:
'Our bold vision has once again confirmed our position as a driving force in
the interactive appliance market place which, according to a recent IDC
report, is likely to be the next wave of global computing, with a possible
market of $13.7 billion by 2001. We were first to market delivering
entertainment and community services to digital and terrestrial interactive
television, and that experience has provided us with a knowledge base to
deliver to the games console platforms. Our innovative community and content
provides partners with exactly what they want and need, if they are going to
keep their customers satisfied. This is just the first of many agreements in
this massive market sector.'
