Yoomedia PLC ('Yoomedia') signs exclusive deal for games with Cartoon Network
Yoomedia, the interactive TV entertainment company, today signed an exclusive
agreement with Cartoon Network to launch a series of games across digital cable,
beginning with Telewest. The deal will see the company launch new Cartoon
Network games in the first quarter of 2003.
Less than a year ago, Cartoon Network successfully launched branded games within
Gamestar on Sky, which have exceeded the 5 million player mark. By entering into
partnership with Yoomedia, Cartoon Network, the most widely distributed kids'
and animation channel in the world, expects to achieve similar success on cable.
All games will be marketed as pay-per-play, delivering exciting and unique
arcade games to cable TV subscribers.
Andrew Fearon, Yoomedia's Chief Operating Officer says, 'Following the enormous
success of Cartoon Network's products in the interactive space, we are very
excited to have secured the opportunity to develop this on cable and partner
with the leading kids' entertainment brand in Europe. This partnership will also
see the implementation of our integrated billing and registration systems, which
bill viewers via their Telewest monthly statement.'
The games will be accessible directly from the Cartoon Network channel, using
the Red Button on the subscriber's remote control. Under the terms of the deal,
Yoomedia will develop Cartoon Network's cable arcade games with Yoomedia's
proprietary portal services, which include its integrated billing and
registration.
Casey Harwood, UK Commercial Director of Turner Broadcasting Systems comments:
'Cartoon Network is the home of some of the world's favourite classic and
contemporary cartoon characters which kids love to access in an interactive
environment. This has been amply demonstrated by the tremendous success of games
on both the Web and Interactive television, which we are delighted to extend
into cable. '
