                           Purchase of Own Securities





Mitchells & Butlers plc announces that on 5 March 2007 it purchased 360,000 of
its ordinary shares at a price of 694.770833 pence per ordinary share.  All of
these shares will be held as treasury shares.



Following the above purchase and the release of 1,605 shares from treasury to
satisfy option exercises by non-directors, Mitchells & Butlers plc holds 738,174
ordinary shares as treasury shares. The total number of Mitchells & Butlers
shares in issue is  403,041,519 (excluding shares to be held in treasury).



It is intended that the shares held as treasury shares will be used to meet
obligations of Mitchells & Butlers under employee share option schemes.
