      Barry Gibson Joins National Express Group as Non-Executive Director

National  Express Group, the leading mass passenger transport services  group,
announces  that  J.  M.  Barry Gibson, Group Chief  Executive  of  Littlewoods
Organisation plc ('Littlewoods'), has today joined the main Board  as  a  Non-
Executive Director.

During  his  career,  Barry,  (48) has achieved a significant  reputation  for
success in the retail industry.  Since joining Littlewoods in September  1997,
he has increased its focus on retail and marketing activities and improved its
operational and financial performance.

Before this, he was on the Board at BAA plc where, as Group Retailing Director
he  transformed  the Group's approach to retailing and was in  charge  of  its
international  expansion.  He was also involved in the Heathrow  Express  rail
link development team and was Chairman of its operating group.

The  appointment further strengthens National Express Group's Board which  now
comprises five Non-Executive and four Executive Directors.

Commenting  on  the appointment, Michael Davies, Chairman of National  Express
Group said:
