                         Completion of Alsa transaction

Further to its announcement of 11 October, National Express Group has  received
competition clearance from the Servicio de Defensa de la Competencia, the
Spanish competition authority.  As a result, all of the conditions have now been
met and, therefore, the Alsa transaction has completed today. Alsa is the
largest private coach and bus operator in Spain operating a fleet of
approximately 1400 vehicles.

Jorge Cosmen, aged 37, will join the National Express Group Board as a non
executive director with immediate effect.

There are no disclosures to be made under section 9.6.13R of the Listing Rules.
