                     Appointment of Group Finance Director
                                       
National Express Group PLC ('the Group'), the leading mass passenger transport
services company, announces the appointment of William Rollason (38) as  Group
Finance Director. He will be joining the Group Board in December this year and
will report directly to Phil White, Group Chief Executive.

William  is  currently  an  Associate Director at Carlton  Communications  Plc
('Carlton'), where he has responsibility for a number of businesses. Prior  to
joining  Carlton  in  1996,  he was Group Finance Director  and  Deputy  Chief
Executive  at  Marling  Industries p.l.c. and between 1988  and  1992  was  an
Assistant Director at Hambros Bank Ltd.

William has excellent strategic business development experience and has worked
on  a  number of high profile merger, acquisition and joint venture activities
throughout  his  career.  He was responsible for the  strategic  international
development  of Marling Industries, where he also substantially  improved  the
company's operational and financial performance.

Commenting on today's announcement, Michael Davies, Chairman, said:

strengthening  of the Board, with the appointments of Richard Brown  as  Group
Commercial Director and Ray O'Toole as Chief Operating Officer(UK).  William's
appointment, given his corporate finance skills and background, brings further
depth  and  breadth  of experience that we believe will  further  enhance  the
Group's future performance.'
