                               BOARD APPOINTMENTS

National Express Group PLC, the leading international passenger transport
company, is pleased to announce the following two Board appointments.

Adam Walker has been appointed Finance Director with immediate effect.  In
addition Larry Durham, Chief Executive of National Express Corporation, the
Group's North American division, will join the Board with immediate effect. Both
positions will report directly to Phil White, Chief Executive.

Adam, aged 35 and a chartered accountant, was formerly the Group's Corporate
Development Director.  Since joining the Group in 2001, he has worked closely
with the Group's operational subsidiaries on developing their financial
strategies.  He was previously a Director of Corporate Finance at Arthur
Andersen and an Associate Director at NatWest Markets.

Larry was the owner and Chief Executive Officer of Durham School Services which
was acquired by the Group in 1999.  Since that time, he has successfully led our
North American expansion plans and played a key role integrating acquired
businesses into the organisation. With over thirty years' experience in
transport, Larry is a highly regarded industry figure.

Commenting on these appointments, Phil White, Chief Executive, said:

appointment is particularly pleasing as his appointment follows interviews with
a number of high calibre external candidates. I am delighted to have found a
candidate of Adam's calibre from within the company as this demonstrates the

hands-on management style.  He is also a strong, highly motivated individual who
I believe will be a valuable new member of the Board.'

regarded within the industry.  He has a unique knowledge of the North American
market which continues to be a key area for future growth.  His appointment
gives our overseas operations a well deserved representation on the Board, as
well as providing an opportunity for Larry to develop a broader corporate role.'

The Group confirms that there are no further matters to be disclosed pursuant to
