                          Appointment of New Chairman


National Express Group PLC ('the Group') is pleased to announce that David Ross
is to be appointed Chairman of the Board taking over from Michael Davies who
retires at the Annual General Meeting on 5 May 2004.


Mr Ross, 38, has been a non-executive director of the Group since February 2001.
He is deputy chairman of The Carphone Warehouse Group PLC, which he joined in
1989, and holds non-executive directorships at Trinity Mirror plc and Wembley
National Stadium Limited.  David is also a member of the Home Office Audit
Committee and a council member of Sports England.


Commenting on the appointment Michael Davies said;


'David has already brought a valuable new perspective to the Board over the last
three years and has been a forthright contributor to our thinking both on the
strategic development of the Group and on improving the way we engage with our
customers.  I am delighted that he has agreed to succeed me as chairman and
believe he will be an excellent custodian of shareholders' interests in the
years to come.'
