                Appointment of new non executive board director


National Express Group PLC is pleased to appoint Sir Andrew Foster to the Board
as a non executive director with effect from 1 August 2004.


Sir Andrew, aged 59, has an extensive career in the public sector having served
as Chief Executive of the Audit Commission for England and Wales between 1992
and 2003.  Previous to that he was Deputy Chief Executive of the NHS and is
currently Deputy Chairman of the Royal Bank of Canada and a non-executive
director of the Sports' Council.


Commenting on his appointment, David Ross, Chairman of National Express said:


'I am delighted that Andrew has agreed to join the Board. He has considerable
understanding and knowledge of the regulatory environment in which our
businesses operate and I believe he can assist us in further improving the
efficiency and development of our business.'
