                              Possible transaction



The Board of National Express confirms that it is in discussions with the
shareholders of Alsa, a privately owned Spanish transport group, which may lead
to a combination of their businesses.  Alsa is the largest private coach and bus
operator in Spain operating a fleet of approximately 1400 vehicles.



There can be no certainty as to whether any such transaction will be completed.
A further announcement will be made in due course if appropriate.
