National Express Group PLC is pleased to appoint Sue Lyons OBE to the Board as
a non executive director with effect from 23 May 2001.


Sue, aged 48, joined Rolls Royce as a graduate apprentice in 1975 and has
since spent a successful career in engineering and manufacturing. She left
Rolls Royce to join Precision Castparts Corp. as Managing Director in 1986. In
1989 Sue returned to Rolls Royce and from 1998 until earlier this year held
the position of Managing Director, Defence (Europe).



Sue is a Visiting Professor in Principles of Engineering Design at Imperial
College, a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the
Institution of Electrical Engineers and a Council Member of the University of
Nottingham. In 1999 she was awarded the European Woman of Achievements Award -
Business Category.



Commenting on the appointment, Michael Davies, Chairman of National Express
said: 'I am delighted to welcome Sue to the board. She brings an extensive
range of skills from industry and I welcome the fresh perspective that she
will bring.'



The company confirms that there are no details to be disclosed under Section
16.4 of the Listing Rules.
