             NATIONAL EXPRESS GROUP PLC SHARE REPURCHASE PROGRAMME


National Express Group Plc announces that on 17 May 2005 it purchased 200,000 of
its ordinary shares at a price of 864.9675 pence per share. It is intended that
these shares will be held in Treasury.


Following the purchase, National Express Group Plc holds 400,000 of its ordinary
shares in Treasury and has a total of 137,180,083 ordinary shares (excluding
shares held in Treasury) in issue.
