                 STATEMENT RE: HOLDING IN WORKSPACE GROUP PLC


Following the trading update dated 23 March 2001, the Board of Mentmore Abbey
announces with its advisor, Bridgewell Corporate Finance Limited, that it is
reviewing the strategic options surrounding the company's holding of 3,174,277
ordinary shares in Workspace Group plc.


At the mid market price at the close of market trading on 17 April 2001 the
value of this stake was approximately £32.5 million.
