MORGAN ASHURST SECURES £71M CONTRACTS FROM £400M HULL BSF SCHEME
Morgan Sindall plc, the construction and regeneration group, today announces that its construction division, Morgan Ashurst, has been awarded the first two contracts, worth £71 million, in Hull City Council's £400 million Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.
These initial two contracts comprise a £38 million scheme to build Winifred Holtby and Tweendykes, a new secondary and special educational needs school, and a £33 million scheme to build Archbishop Sentamu Academy, a new academy school in Preston Road, Hull.
The contracts follow the Hull Esteem Consortium, comprising Morgan Sindall Investments, Robertson Capital Projects and the Sewell Group, reaching financial close on Hull's Building Our Future strategy, a £400 million, 25-year framework to redevelop 17 schools across the city.
Together, the Hull Esteem Consortium will deliver seven new build schemes and 10 remodels or refurbishment projects. The four-year construction programme is expected to be worth £200 million to Morgan Ashurst. Construction work will begin in February 2010 and is expected to be completed in 2014.
Paul Smith, Chief Executive of Morgan Sindall plc, said:
"We are pleased be part of both the construction and investment team on this BSF project which is set to transform education facilities across Hull. Morgan Ashurst's experience and ability make us one of the UK's leading construction groups in the education sector.
