Gaming Licence Granted

betinternet.com PLC 23 November 2000 BETINTERNET.COM PLC: MALTA GAMING LICENCE GRANTED MAJOR STEP IN PROVISION OF GLOBAL TOTE BETTING SERVICE Betinternet.com plc ('betinternet'), the AIM-listed Isle of Man-based international online and telephone betting service provider, today announces that it has taken a major step forward in its stated strategy of providing access to global tote betting following the granting of an international bookmakers licence by the Maltese Gaming Commission to its local subsidiary, Betinternet Malta Limited. The licence will also enable its Maltese subsidiary to offer a tax-free sports betting service to UK residents for the first time. More importantly, however, is that betinternet can now establish its Euro Off-Track Limited Partnership ('Euro Off-Track') joint venture that will provide direct access for non United States residents to bet directly on US Totes, either by telephone or the internet, for the first time. betinternet's joint venture partner in Euro Off-Track is Greyhound Channel Inc., a business comprising a group of US companies with an annual turnover of $500m. Through Euro Off-Track betinternet is able to establish a global hub and communication centre in Malta for tote betting by the installation of an Amtote Spectrum Totalisator System. The hub will replicate Greyhound Channel Inc.'s existing US hub and enable Euro Off-Track to provide real time links into US totes. Also it enables Euro Off-Track to become the European hub for totes all over the world and for the first time create a truly global tote betting service. Euro Off-Track will also provide live US greyhound and horse-racing coverage to licensed bookmakers throughout the world from 30 leading tracks. Consumers will be provided with a greyhound 'clipping' service through the internet, a service which has proved very successful in the US. However, following the expected introduction of improved broadband widths Euro Off-Track anticipates that live pictures will be transmitted over the internet. Initially customers can bet either through the internet or the telephone but already plans are well advanced enabling them to bet into the US totes using mobile telephones and PDA's (personal digital assistant). Vincent Caldwell, Chairman of betinternet, said: 'Our involvement in tote betting is a very positive step forward for betinternet. Global totalisator betting is both extremely common and popular throughout the world, far more so than is readily perceived by UK gamblers who are used to fixed odds betting. Importantly totalisator betting is profitable and risk free. 'Through Euro Off-Track we intend developing a number of global business relationships and to that end discussions with several major prospective partners are at an advanced stage. With the creation of the transnational hub in Malta, betinternet has taken another positive step in establishing a global brand and at the same time is providing its customers with direct access to major betting markets.' In September betinternet announced its maiden preliminary results since flotation on AIM in May 2000 which showed a seven fold increase in turnover to £11.7m. In the first four months of the current financial year turnover totalled more than £14m and is currently running at the rate of £1.3m a week compared to £340,000 a week at the time of the float.
