Next ESOP Trust

On 11 April 2001 the Next ESOP Trust disposed of 49,260 Ordinary Shares of 10p
each in Next plc to satisfy share options exercised by employees of the Company.

Executive Directors of Next plc who are participants in the Company share option
schemes are deemed to be discretionary beneficiaries of the Trust and are
consequently considered to be interested in all of the shares held by the Trust
which amount to 7,757,507.

Next plc - Directors

Mr Andrew John Varley, Director has today exercised options granted to him under
the Company Share Option Scheme to purchase 20,000 Next plc Ordinary Shares of
10p each at a price of 237.67p.  Mr Varley then sold his beneficial interest in
these shares as follows:
