NORTHERN VENTURE TRUST PLC ('The Company')

PURCHASE OF OWN SHARES

The Company announces that on 29 September 2006 it purchased for cancellation
under an existing authority granted by shareholders 56,413 ordinary shares of
25p each in the market at a price of 70.2p, representing approximately 0.15 per
cent of the Company's issued ordinary share capital.  There remain 38,651,309
ordinary shares in issue.
