Deutsche Welle purchases Orad's news and master control room graphic systems for
over €1 million
Orad Hi-Tec Systems (Symbol: OHT), announced today that it has signed an
agreement with leading German broadcaster, Deutsche Welle, for the supply of
graphic systems, in a contract worth more than €1 million. This project is
Orad's largest European news installation.
As part of the agreement, Orad will introduce a completely new digital graphics
workflow at both Deutsche Welle's studios and continuity rooms. The entire
graphic system will be based on Orad's next generation HDVG video graphics
rendering platform. The HDVG units will be installed in each one of the studios
and continuity rooms, producing high quality 3D and 2D real-time graphics and
animations.
Deutsche Welle is a member of the ARD group which is publicly traded. Deutsche
Welle broadcasts television programs, radio and internet to a worldwide
audience. Deutsche Welle employs 1,500 staff members from more than 60
countries. In addition to the studios in Germany, ARD operates studios in
Washington, Moscow and Brussels.
Orad's solution for Deutsche Welle will be a template based one: The graphic
templates will be generated by Orad's 3Designer authoring application and then
populated with real-time data either manually or from external databases. A
unique interface with Reuters' database will enable financial information to be
displayed in real-time either in the form of a ticker or using Orad's line
graphs for real-time graphic visualization of the financial data.
In order to aid in the system's productivity, the entire solution will be
database driven. All the graphic templates will be registered on a central
database which can be accessed by multiple users who can select the relevant
approved template. A sophisticated user's rights management policy will be
developed to ensure proper content access for the Deutsche Welle personnel. The
solution will also include multiple interfaces to external systems such as
newsroom systems, Harris automation and Avid NLE systems.
'After careful and extensive examination of the solutions on the market, we
chose Orad's and Miranda's graphic system to enable us to deliver up-to-date,
multilingual TV programs with minimal time, effort and cost. We are convinced
that Orad and Miranda's graphic system is the most capable to meet today's and
future challenges for an up-to-date foreign broadcast, with 24 hour
transmission, per day, in six languages'; states Mr. Falko Schutz Project
Manager, Deutsche Welle TV.
Mr. Avi Sharir President and CEO of Orad commented: 'Our solutions for 24/7 news
operations are becoming increasingly popular. This agreement with Deutsche Welle
is a clear indication that our solutions continue to be on the cutting edge of
TV production technology.'
