Analyst Presentations
Old Mutual announces that it is today making a series of presentations on its
Financial Services division to a group of institutional and broking analysts
in Cape Town, South Africa.
The acquisitions by Old Mutual plc this year of Gerrard Group plc and United
Asset Management Corporation ('UAM'), have significantly transformed this
activity of the Group. Since these acquisitions closed, in April 2000 and 27th
September 2000 respectively, Old Mutual has commenced substantial
restructuring of both businesses preparatory to further investing in them to
build a strong platform for the future growth and development of a world-class
asset management and financial services business. Both through these
acquisitions, and external recruitment, Old Mutual has considerably expanded
its management team in the Financial Services division. Key members of this
management team are meeting in Cape Town this week and this affords the
opportunity for these presentations which will review work in progress and
plans, previously outlined, for further development during 2001.
The Financial Services and Asset Management activities of Old Mutual include:
* Old Mutual Asset Managers which provides multinational, multi-style
asset management capability with global investment and asset management
expertise; and, Old Mutual Unit Trusts, which is the leading unit trust
provider in South Africa.
* Gerrard, which comprises the merged businesses of Greig Middleton and
Capel Cure Sharp which is one of the leading providers of portfolio
management and stockbroking services to high net-worth individuals in the
UK.
* GNI, a leading specialist finance and derivatives intermediary in London
and Europe, which is Old Mutual's specialised broking and derivatives
market subsidiary.
* United Asset Management, the US holding company of a family of
substantial fund management groups, including Pilgrim Baxter & Associates,
Ltd. ('PBA'), a leading mutual fund business. Old Mutual recently
announced that the revenue sharing agreements at PBA had been
restructured, providing Old Mutual with an enhanced interest in the
business. A process has been initiated to create a core group of UAM
affiliates that will retain their existing investment management and
marketing focus, but will co-operate to create a substantial multi-style
presence in the US fund management industry.
* Old Mutual Securities, which focuses on the growth sector of corporate
and advisory services for smaller and medium sized UK and European
companies.
* E-sec lending, a web based auction process for international securities
lending
The presentations will be given by senior divisional management and are
intended to develop better appreciation of the strategic rationale and the
potential of the Asset Management businesses.
There will be no discussion about current trading or future financial
performance.
Slides of the presentations will be posted to the Old Mutual website
(www.oldmutual.com) during the afternoon of 5 December 2000 with an archive
webcast of the presentations available on Wednesday 6 December.
