 Directors' interest in shares of Old Mutual plc ('the Company')

The  Company has been informed by a letter received on  4  August
1999,  that the 2,400 shares in which Mr P.G. Joubert, a director
to  the  Company,  was formerly directly beneficially  interested
were  transferred  during July 1999 for  no  consideration  to  a
family  trust  in  which  Mr Joubert is  indirectly  beneficially
interested.    Mr   Joubert   is   now   accordingly   indirectly
beneficially  interested  in  a total  of  4,500  shares  in  the
Company.
