                             Share interests

Old Mutual plc (the 'Company') announces that it has been notified by a letter
dated 3 December 2003, received today, that Public Investment Commissioners of
the Republic of South Africa ('PIC') has a notifiable interest, for the purposes
of Part VI of the UK Companies Act 1985, in 292,664,212 shares in the Company,
representing approximately 7.6% of the Company's current issued ordinary share
capital.

PIC is a non-banking financial intermediary responsible for the investment of
public sector pension and provident funds and various social security and trust
funds in South Africa.
