Old Mutual plc (the 'Company') announces that it has today received a notice
dated 12 October 2006 informing the Company that Barclays PLC, through the legal
entities listed below, had at 11 October 2006 a notifiable interest, for the
purposes of Part VI of the UK Companies Act 1985, in 5.09% of the Company's
ordinary share capital, represented by an aggregate holding of 279,408,075
shares.

Company that Cater Allen International Limited had at 13 October 2006 a
notifiable interest, for the purposes of Part VI of the UK Companies Act 1985,
in 3.67% of the Company's ordinary share capital, represented by an aggregate
holding of 201,224,519 shares arising from stock loan transactions done under
the relevant approved documentation as a principal trading member of the London
Stock Exchange.
