Old Mutual plc (the 'Company') announces that it received the following notice
about significant shareholdings on 10 June 2005:

   • notice dated 10 June 2005 informing the Company that Sanlam Investment
    Management (Pty) Limited had at that date a notifiable interest, for the
    purposes of Part VI of the UK Companies Act 1985, in 4.20% of the Company's
    ordinary share capital, represented by an aggregate holding of 162,122,094
    shares. Of these shares, 70,403,100 shares (representing 1.83% of the
    Company's ordinary share capital) were managed on behalf of Sanlam itself,
    with the rest managed on behalf of other third party investors.
