                           Transaction in Own Shares



Old Mutual plc ('the Company') announces that on 11 October 2007 it purchased
through Merrill Lynch South Africa (Pty) Limited a total of 1,500,000 of the
Company's ordinary shares of 10p each.



All of these shares were acquired on the JSE Limited at an average price of ZAR
24.66 per share.



The purchased shares will be held in treasury.  The Company's current issued
share capital is now 5,491,890,821 ordinary shares of 10p each (excluding the
15,987,600 shares that have so far been repurchased into treasury).
