                           Transaction in Own Shares



Old Mutual plc ('the Company') announces that on 23 November 2007 it purchased
through Merrill Lynch International and Merrill Lynch South Africa (Pty) Limited
a total of 1,838,961 of the Company's ordinary shares of 10p each.



1,400,000 of these shares were acquired on the London Stock Exchange at an
average price of 159.19 pence per share and 438,961 shares were acquired on the
JSE Limited at an average price of ZAR 22.36 per share.



The purchased shares will be held in treasury.  The Company's current issued
share capital is now 5,449,366,676 ordinary shares of 10p each (excluding the
60,299,534 shares that have so far been repurchased into treasury).
