                           Transaction in Own Shares



Old Mutual plc ('the Company') announces that on 29 November 2007 it purchased
through Merrill Lynch International and Merrill Lynch South Africa (Pty) Limited
a total of 2,732,000 of the Company's ordinary shares of 10p each.



2,100,000 of these shares were acquired on the London Stock Exchange at an
average price of 163.97 pence per share and 632,000 shares were acquired on the
JSE Limited at an average price of ZAR 23.18 per share.



The purchased shares will be held in treasury.  The Company's current issued
share capital is now 5,439,128,026 ordinary shares of 10p each (excluding the
70,538,184 shares that have so far been repurchased into treasury).
