                           Transaction in Own Shares

Old Mutual plc ('the Company') announces that on 26 March 2008 it purchased
through Deutsche Securities (Pty) Limited a total of 613,946 of the Company's
ordinary shares of 10p each.

All of these shares were acquired on the JSE Limited at an average price of ZAR
18.1819 per share.

The purchased shares will be held in treasury. The Company's current issued
share capital is now 5,295,315,172 ordinary shares of 10p each (excluding the
215,152,279 shares that have so far been repurchased into treasury).
