PRESS RELEASE
March 30, 2009 at 14.30 pm
Outokumpu has signed a contract with Yangzi Shipbuilding Industry in
China to deliver the stainless steel special grade Duplex 2205 to
four ships of 3 600 DWT each. The ships will be carrying acids, for
example phosphoric and sulphuric acids.
The contract includes a total of 1 200 tons of stainless steel plate
that will be used to manufacture the big tanks inside the ships. The
deliveries will take place from April to November 2009.
The ships will be operated by the Dutch shipping company UNIFLEET and
will be in use from 2010 and 2011.
"Winning orders in competition with Chinese plate producers in their
own country, shows Outokumpu's leadership as a supplier to shipyards
making this type of ships. The advantage was our experience in
complex businesses with tailor-made plate products, technical
know-how and in managing the flow of products according to the
construction plan of the shipyard", says Hans Gunnarsson from the
sales team specialized in Chemical tankers.
Outokumpu's target is to increase sales to end-users and projects.
The company is a market leader in Duplex grades with 50 percent
global market share. Duplex grades are characterized with good
corrosion resistance and high strength. They meet the requirements of
the most demanding environments offering durability, material savings
and lower life cycle costs.
