Outokumpu to supply stainless steel to the Stoc...
PRESS RELEASE

The Stockholm Waterfront project's most visible part, the Congress
Centre, will incorporate a spectacular stainless steel façade. The
stainless material will be provided by Outokumpu. The building will
meet high environmental standards with regards to energy efficiency
and sustainability.
The Congress Centre façade will be a double structure, in which the
building is encased in a screen built from Z-shaped stainless
profiles. The material will be Outokumpu's duplex stainless steel
with a half-matte surface to provide the desired level of
reflectivity. Outokumpu has also provided stainless
fingerprint-resistant steel for inside door and window frames.
The Stockholm Waterfront project emphasizes energy-efficiency and
sustainable materials. Stainless steel was chosen by the architects,
White Arkitekter, as a response to this. Outokumpu's duplex steel
provides a highly durable and corrosion resistant stainless
structure, which will be largely maintenance-free and fully
recyclable.
Stefano Mangili of White Arkitekter comments on Outokumpu's role:
"As architects we have visions of what to achieve, but we need
professionals to help us optimize and realize our visions. A lot of
work was put into finding the exact material for this complex
structure. From Outokumpu, we got the support we needed to realize
the vision."
Mats Segerbäck, Segment Solution Manager, is pleased with the
project:
"This building combines aesthetic appearance with a requirement for
an extended lifespan. We are happy to fulfill the needs of the
architects with our stainless solutions. This also demonstrates
Outokumpu's capability to give specialist advice in prioritized key
segments like architecture."
The Stockholm Waterfront will be situated in central Stockholm,
overlooking the City Hall and the bay Riddarfjärden. The project is
scheduled for completion in December 2010.
