                             Director Shareholdings


The Company received notification on 27 April 2007 that, on that day, Dr. Susan
Kingsman, a director of the Company and wife of Professor Alan Kingsman, Chief
Executive Officer of the Company, sold 4,000,000 ordinary shares of 1p each in
the Company ('Ordinary Shares') at 48 pence per share. Following this
transaction, Dr. Kingsman is interested in 13,032,590 Ordinary Shares
representing 2.44 per cent. of the Company's issued share capital. This includes
8,293,451 Ordinary Shares held by Professor Alan Kingsman, 210,000 Ordinary
Shares held jointly by Alan and Susan Kingsman and 100,000 Ordinary Shares held
by the son of Alan and Susan Kingsman.

In addition, Andrew Wood and Peter Nolan, both Directors of the Company, have
today exercised options over 167,000 and 132,000 Ordinary Shares in the Company
respectively. Both directors have subsequently sold all of these Ordinary Shares
for 48 pence per share.

These shares were placed by Evolution Securities with institutional investors.

Following these transactions, the total interests of Andrew Wood and Peter Nolan
in the Company's Ordinary Shares and share options are as follows:

The exercise price for the options exercised today was 19.25p per share. The
newly allotted shares are subject to a block listing, so are already listed.
Including these shares, the total number of the Ordinary Shares in issue is now
533,939,015.
