2d3 Contract Win
- UK MOD's Dstl Centre for Defence Enterprise awards 2d3 with second phase project -
OMG plc, (AIM: OMG), the technology group providing image understanding products for the entertainment, defence, life science and engineering industries, is proud to announce that, 2d3 Sensing, the Group's defence and security business, has been awarded a further contract with the UK MOD's Defence Science and Technology Laboratory ("Dstl") Centre for Defence Enterprise ("CDE").
The aim of the project is to develop technology that will improve the efficiency of managing streaming data intelligence and will run until September 2015. An initial phase was completed during 2013, the successful completion of which led to 2d3 being awarded this second contract.
The first phase included a Proof-of-Concept ("PoC") project whereby 2d3 co-developed a Streaming Data Intelligence Library standard, as well as building a prototype that could handle both motion imagery and Ground Moving Target Indicator ("GMTI") data in an efficient and coherent manner. When compared against a conventional intelligence library, the Streaming Data Intelligence Library prototype was demonstrably more efficient. For example, a military analyst was able to complete three tasks in under five minutes compared to one task which would normally take over two hours. Additionally, when completing these tasks, the analyst only required 2MB of data to be transferred compared to 6.6GB with a conventional intelligence library.
In this second phase, 2d3 Sensing will work in partnership with Dstl CDE to further develop the Streaming Data Intelligence Library concept, mature the technology and formally prototype the capability.
Commenting on today's announcement Nick Bolton, Chief Executive of OMG plc, said:
"We are very pleased to have been awarded this contract by Dstl. The work we are undertaking in partnership with them is a testament not only to the strength of 2d3's working relationship, but also speaks to the strength of our expertise in bringing our innovative technology to bear. It's gratifying that our work continues to be recognised within the UK defence industry and we look forward to driving forward this important initiative."
