University of Roehampton upgrade to Vicon's flagship Vantage system

Customer of 20 years has purchased its fifth Vicon system

Upgrade demonstrates continued strength of Vicon's technology

OMG plc (LSE: OMG), the technology group providing Computer Vision products and services for the entertainment, life science, engineering industries and consumer electronics markets, announces that Vicon, its motion capture technology division, has upgraded the University of Roehampton to a Vicon Vantage V5 system with Nexus software.

University of Roehampton, named 'Best Modern University' in the Complete University Guide 2015, Sunday Times Good University Guide 2015 and Guardian University Guide 2016, purchased its first Vicon system in 1996 for biomechanics.

The multifunctional laboratory at Roehampton uses its Vicon system for teaching and research purposes. Sports and Exercise Science, as well as Biomechanics students are taught with the Vicon system and many PhD students go on to use it in their dissertations. Ranked 'Most Research Intensive University in the UK' based on results from the Research Excellence Framework 2014, Roehampton's research using the Vicon system focuses on people with lower limb amputations, concentrating on factors such as back pain, movement, exercise intervention to improve daily tasks and gait retraining.

The Vantage upgrade will bring increased camera resolution, enabling Roehampton to track smaller markers which are close together in a larger volume. The system also captures higher quality data and has enhanced synchronisation with third party products.

Alison Carlisle, Specialist Technician, Sport and Exercise Sciences, Department of Life Sciences at Roehampton, said:

"Over the years we've evaluated other motion capture providers but have always chosen to stay with Vicon due to the quality of the data, its ease-of-use and the high level of support we receive. We've just started using the Vantage system with Nexus 2.3 software and are very pleased with the increased data quality and smoother workflow; this will improve our data collection and the overall student experience."

Nick Bolton, CEO of Oxford Metrics, commented:

"We're proud the University of Roehampton has been a customer for 20 years and the fact this is their fifth system upgrade is testimony to the quality of Vicon products which continue to strengthen year after year. I'm pleased Roehampton are already seeing the benefits of Vantage and look forward to seeing the future research generated by the team."
