The Company has today been informed of the following purchases on behalf of Mr
Rhoderick Swire, a Director of the Company:

 - purchase of 2,014 ordinary 67p shares of the Company at a price of 578p on
   30 April 2001 by his wife Mrs G M Swire

 - purchase of 1,200 ordinary 67p shares of the Company at a price of 575p on
   30 April 2001 by his wife Mrs G M Swire

 - purchase of 1,241 ordinary 67p shares of the Company at a price of 578p on
   30 April 2001

As a result of these purchases Mr Rhoderick Swire, a Director of the Company,
is now interested in 17,667 ordinary 67p shares of the Company (0.10% of the
issued class of capital).
