Parity announces agreement to set up e-commerce trading system
aimed at Utilities sector
Joint agreement with Infobank marks Parity's first entry into fast-growing ASP
market
Parity Group plc, the international IT consultancy group, has entered into a
partnership agreement with e-Procurement specialists Infobank International
Holdings plc to build an on-line procurement service (an 'e-Hub') which will
be targeted initially at Utilities companies and their suppliers.
An e-Hub uses the power of the internet to bring together buyers and sellers
of goods and services to form custom on-line market places, enabling both
sides of the trading relationship to reduce dramatically the costs of
purchasing and supply.
The new e-Hub will be a hosted web-based ASP ('Application Service Provider')
application, so that utility companies will not need to incur the cost of
investing in IT infrastructure set up and maintenance costs. The hub will be
built and managed by the Group's Parity Solutions subsidiary using the
Infobank e-Hub software. For buyers, this ASP solution cuts down the cost of
procurement substantially and frees the purchasing manager to focus on the
commercial aspects of supply chain management. For suppliers too, it reduces
the cost of sale considerably.
Philip Swinstead, Executive Chairman of Parity Group plc, commented, 'As the
market is aware, Parity has been moving fast to augment its skills so that it
is repositioned as a real e-business services company. Much has been achieved
since this strategy was announced in early 1999, including the acquisitions of
TMS Information Solutions, Interactive Developments and Comtec Limited. A key
element in this evolution is to enter the ASP market and we are delighted to
be announcing this first venture in a sector in which Parity has great
experience.'
Forrester Research predicts there will be an explosion of e-Hub growth over
the next few years, with 10,000 e-Hubs in operation by 2003 as companies build
customised trading communities dedicated to their specific markets. Parity has
chosen the Utilities sector as the target for its first move into ASP because
of its a wealth of experience in the sector, having provided a wide range of
solutions to clients including e-business strategy studies and customer
management, billing and marketing systems.
'We chose Infobank because it represents the best international e-Procurement
product suite on the market today,' said Keith Jennings, Managing Director,
Parity Solutions. 'The multiple language, multiple tax and multiple currency
capabilities make it particularly attractive for a global market. Starting in
the Utilities sector, we intend to use the e-Hub to deliver value and
efficiency for companies and their extended supply chains worldwide.'
'We believe there will be many trading communities, as well as a single
tailored trading community within large corporations,' said Graham Sadd, CEO
of Infobank. 'Parity is a market leader in the Utilities sector, and by
joining forces to create a customised e-Hub for this market, we will deliver a
value-added customised trading community for companies that delivers the
commercial benefits of automated procurement, increased purchasing control,
supply chain management and administration.'
