Pennant Awarded Two Contracts by Thomson Training & Simulation Limited
for Lynx Aircrew Training Service
Pennant Training Systems Limited (PTSL) is pleased to announce the award of
two contracts by Thomson Training & Simulation. (TT&S), the first, for a
Cockpit Procedures Trainer (CPT) and, the second, for a Computer Based
Training (CBT) suite for the UK Army Lynx Mk7/9 Helicopter. These contracts
form part of a Private Finance Initiative contract placed with Thomson Eagle
(Middle Wallop) Aircrew Training Limited by the Ministry of Defence for the
supply of the Lynx Mk7/9 Aircrew Training Service.
These are PTSL's first contracts with TT&S and they have been awarded after an
exhaustive competitive tender. The CPT and the CBT suite will be installed in
a new facility at the School of Army Aviation, located at Middle Wallop,
Hampshire, and are scheduled to enter service by the end of 2001.
'Winning these contracts is a measure of the expertise and dedication of the
staff in Cheltenham and I look forward to the continued development of our
relationship with TT&S.' says Joe Thompson, Chief Executive Pennant
International Group. 'Their combined value is significant, in excess of £1
million, and work on these contracts will contribute to the second half of
this year and to 2001.'
The CPT will provide cost effective familiarisation and emergencies training
for Lynx aircrew and will allow groundcrew to become familiar with cockpit
operational procedures. The CBT will provide a comprehensive and coherent
learning suite for Lynx aircrew comprising instruction and examination on the
Lynx Mk7/9 aircraft and mission systems.
The CPT will comprise a replica Lynx cockpit and will incorporate flight and
system software simulation models to enable realistic training, in both normal
and emergency procedures, in all phases of operation. The modular design of
the trainer will allow it to be reconfigured, representing either the Mk7 or
Mk9 aircraft, between training sorties. The CBT suite will comprise a secure
network of student workstations, with the instructors having the capability to
monitor and manage individual students in self-paced mode, or presenting
instructional modules to the class as a whole.
These orders further extend the range of Lynx training supplied by PTSL which
includes CBT courseware, CPT, Electrical and Engine Part Task Trainers and
Weapon Systems Trainers for both Army and Navy flight crew and maintenance
personnel.
