PERSIMMON PLC
MAJOR LAND ACQUISITIONS
Persimmon plc, the leading UK housebuilder, is pleased to announce it has
acquired two major brownfield sites for redevelopment. The combined schemes will
provide over 1,700 homes on 118 acres with a total sales value of over £260
million.
Persimmon has acquired a 78 acre site at Cape Hill, Birmingham on land
previously occupied by the former Coors Brewery. Up to 975 new homes will be
built on the brownfield scheme with residential development expected to begin in
Summer 2005. The scheme has a gross development worth in excess of £110 million.
It will incorporate an element of affordable housing and Persimmon will make a
financial contribution towards the improvement of educational facilities,
highways and will help restore areas of conservation. The Group will build both
Persimmon and Charles Church homes on this site.
Persimmon has also exchanged contracts to purchase a 40 acre site with planning
consent for 750 units on Tufnell Way in Braiswick, Colchester. The site is
currently occupied by the Flakt Wood factory. The £150 million project will
include an element of affordable housing and Persimmon will fund approximately
£2.5 million of community contributions. Work on the first phase of the site is
expected to commence in Autumn 2004 whilst the new Flakt Wood factory is being
built. Demolition of the factory buildings will then commence in Summer 2005 to
make way for a full range of new homes.
John White, Group Chief Executive commented: 'These major land acquisitions are
in excellent locations and provide us with schemes that have a combined sales
value of more than £260 million. Both these developments are on brownfield sites
and underline our commitment to urban regeneration and to providing homes to all
sectors of the market. The benefits of the scale of our business and the
expertise we provide are further illustrated by the acquisition of these large
sites.'
