Screen PLC

For Immediate Release 3:55pm 17 July 2002
Board Changes
Screen Plc ('Screen' or 'the Group'), a leading provider of advanced security
and communication systems, announces the appointment of Dr Geoff Carswell as an
executive Director, with immediate effect.
Dr Carswell, aged 56, has been Managing Director of Screen's subsidiary,
Joyce-Loebl Ltd, ('Joyce-Loebl') since 1999. Now an important component of the
Group, the business is one of the UK's leading suppliers of specialist
technology to the Transport and Defence sectors, in the UK and Internationally.
Joyce-Loebl is the Group's largest acquisition in the UK to date, and was
acquired in December 2001.
At the same time, Screen also announces the resignation from the Board, and as
Chief Executive, of Mr Claes Bergstedt. Mr Bergstedt joined Screen in August
2001, prior to its acquisition of Joyce-Loebl. Mr Bergstedt, whose initial
responsibilities were to drive the continuing success of Screen's mobile data
products, leaves by mutual consent.
Screen anticipates announcing in September results for the six months ended 30th
June 2002 broadly in line with market expectations.
Commenting, Owen Williams, Chairman of Screen said:
'Under Dr Carswell's direction, Joyce-Loebl has been quickly and successfully
integrated into the Group, whilst delivering us a strong first half performance
from both its Transport and Defence operations.
His appointment acknowledges the contribution made by Joyce-Loebl and follows
the Group's effective rationalisation of its operating businesses into two
market-facing brands of Petards and Joyce-Loebl.
His successes at Joyce-Loebl have taken Screen into the important Defence sector
and strengthened its presence in Passenger Mass Transport, two high growth
markets for the Group's existing products and services. The organisation,
following the appointment of Dr Carswell, results in shortened reporting lines
and greater visibility to what is now a key part of our business.'
The Board of Screen now consists of Owen Williams, Executive Chairman; Ian
Taylor MBE MP, Non-Executive Deputy Chairman; James Shand, Finance Director;
Mike Williams, Executive Director, Managing Director - Petards Vision; Richard
Hill, Business Development Director; Dr Geoff Carswell, Executive Director,
Managing Director - Joyce-Loebl and Major General Tim Sulivan CB CBE,
Non-Executive Director.
Under the Petards brand, Screen provides security surveillance solutions,
wireless & video technologies and specialist software development & integration
to its primary markets of the Emergency Services and Local & Central Government.
The Joyce-Loebl brand provides passenger information systems, in-seat
entertainment and onboard CCTV security solutions to the Transport market. For
the international defence market, Joyce-Loebl provides electronic warfare
systems, fighting vehicle electronics and rugged communications and IT
solutions. The Group derives 75% of its sales from the public sector.
