Contract Gain

Screen PLC 11 June 2001 For Immediate Release 11 June 2001 Screen plc: Contract Gain Screen plc ('Screen'), the security and communication systems provider, announces that it has won a contract from Transport for London ('TfL') an executive arm of the Greater London Authority, to integrate their traffic monitoring camera network with four existing Local Borough CCTV schemes. The contract, secured by Screen's Petards Vision subsidiary for an undisclosed amount, allows TfL, London Borough Councils and the Metropolitan Police ('the agencies') to integrate their CCTV camera schemes. This system allows an agency to view and take control of certain strategic cameras owned by another agency. The agencies use CCTV cameras for different purposes: to monitor traffic levels, for crime prevention and for security and policing purposes respectively. With over 2500 cameras already installed in the capital by the agencies an integrated CCTV system allows them to have immediate access to a significantly higher number of cameras than are available solely on their own networks. The contract strengthens Screen's market position as London continues to invest in sophisticated security and surveillance systems. The capital's ever-present security concerns encourage greater use of CCTV surveillance and an increasing number of agencies require access to the cameras and the video footage they capture. Screen is developing proprietary software to allow TfL systems to integrate with multiple CCTV systems with other agencies in London. The contract encompasses the development of application software to meet the specifications of the TfL Open Protocol - a system standard published and owned by TfL - that will support networking and sharing of video images across multiple systems over wide geographical areas. This communications protocol is being incorporated with Petards well-established COBYT ('Control By Touch') CCTV Management System, which is already designed to integrate multiple CCTV systems standards. Said Ken Oastler, Assistant Director, Traffic Technology Services, Transport for London Street Management. 'Historically, each agency has acted autonomously and, often the same area has been covered by more than one camera. The ability to share cameras belonging to a number of systems is an attractive proposition in terms of capital cost savings and reductions in on-going maintenance. Longer term, it is our aim to encourage other Boroughs to participate in similar projects.' Said Michael Williams, Managing Director of Petards Vision: 'We are delighted to have been selected by TfL to undertake this project. With 14 of the 32 London Boroughs already using Screen products we are in a strong position to capitalise on potential Borough demand for integrated CCTV systems. Our technology gives an agency access to many more cameras and brings operational efficiency benefits to CCTV users not just in London Boroughs, but potentially in all major Cities throughout the UK in which multiple CCTV systems are deployed.' Screen also announces that SG Securities (London) Ltd has been appointed as Nominated Advisor to Screen plc, with immediate effect.
