Screen Plc: German Distribution Agreement
- Europe's largest handheld terminal distributor selects Screen's latest
product.
Screen Plc, ('Screen') a leading provider of advanced security and
communications systems, announces that PDS GmbH ('PDS') in Germany, Europe's
largest distributor of handheld terminals, has selected its new ProGenie range
of Handheld PCs. PDS has signed an agreement to distribute the ProGenie range,
developed by Screen's Petards Mobile Intelligence subsidiary ('PMI').
With over 45,000 terminals installed at Deutsche Post alone, Cologne-based PDS
also has substantial installations in major European parcel delivery,
transportation and retail companies.
PMI, the mobile data terminal and in-car video specialist is better known for
solutions provided to the world's police forces through popular television
programmes like Police Camera Action and Motorway Madness. PMI develops and
manufactures the ProGenie range of rugged Handheld PCs that are equally at
home in a vehicle or in your hand.
PMI has used its extensive knowledge of the mobile data market to produce the
next generation of 'ruggedised' handheld PCs. ProGenie is equally at home in
its vehicle-docking cradle or in the user's hand, it spans the laptop versus
pocket PC dilemma. Designed to deliver mobile computing at an affordable
price, ProGenie packs features such as GSM/GPRS, packet data or wireless LAN
communication options, GPS positioning, 2D Barcode scanning and 2GB of data
storage, all behind a 7 inch wide colour VGA touch screen.
PDS is the first German distributor for the ProGenie range of PCs. Last year,
PDS's annual turnover was DM45 million. Other Screen products are distributed
in 46 countries around the world, including Germany.
Commenting Herbert Schmid, President of PDS said: 'ProGenie is a very exciting
product. Its vehicle cradling capability, together with its unique screen
size and integrated communications provides the perfect compliment to our
existing handheld terminal range. I am convinced that we will find many
applications for these terminals within our extensive corporate client base.'
Adds Colin Pike, International Sales Manager at PMI: 'The large number of
terminals installed and supported by PDS is a good indication of their
reputation among many of Europe's largest users of mobile data systems. We
are delighted that they have chosen ProGenie and are confident that this
partnership will rapidly result in the large-scale deployment of ProGenie in
Germany, and beyond as we continue to expand our international distribution
network. The distribution agreement with PDS is a further endorsement of the
capabilities and potential of ProGenie.'
