Screen PLC
17 June 2002
Screen Plc begins North American Distribution with Applied Concepts, Inc.
Screen Plc ('Screen' or the 'Group'), the specialist security and communications
systems provider, has reached an agreement with Applied Concepts, Inc. (ACI) for
the US-Wide distribution of a specially developed version of Screen's ProVida
video evidence and enforcement product.
ACI, better known as Stalker Radar, is North America's largest manufacturer and
supplier of speed radar systems. Based in Plano, Texas, ACI's police speed
enforcement radar, vehicle mounted and handheld, are best-selling products in
the USA.
Screen's ProVida range of video evidence and enforcement products are
distributed to 40+ countries. Recognised internationally through the video
footage used by TV programs such as Police Camera Action and Motorway Madness,
the ProVida range equips over 5,000 police cars and motorcycles.
Commenting on the agreement, Claes Bergstedt, CEO of Screen Plc said:
'The potential market for Video based speed enforcement and surveillance systems
in the USA alone is estimated at 20,000 units a year. Significant growth is
expected as the need for surveillance increases. Our agreement with ACI, the
largest supplier of radar equipment to police departments in the USA, gives us
access to a readymade effective channel for our products and a partner with whom
we know we can work.'
The new ProVida system has been developed over the past 12 months and follows
the already established Screen / ACI partnership supplying and developing
combined speed radar and video evidence systems into European markets. The
availability of the new US focused Stalker Radar / ProVida Video system
developed specifically to meet the requirements of the North American market, is
expected to be of significant benefit to both companies and to law enforcement
agencies across North America. The Group is looking forward to making the first
product shipments this month, with follow on shipments in July and August.
Alan Mead Chairman and CEO of Applied Concepts, Inc. said:
'We welcome the opportunity to develop our relationship with Screen and see
particular benefit in introducing ProVida, an already widely accepted product,
into the US market. Adding a video based solution to our already strong range
of radar products strengthens our portfolio and allows us to improve the ROI on
our domestic sales and support network built-up over may years. The timing of
the agreement and the availability of a premium solution specifically for the US
market, have presented us with a unique opportunity at a time when spending on
technology to support law enforcement is growing rapidly.
