Porvair wins filter contract for Airbus fuel tank inerting
Porvair today announces that it has signed a supply agreement expected to be
worth $3m over seven years with Parker Hannifin Corporation, a world leader in
motion and control systems and components for aerospace and industrial
applications. Porvair will supply the aerospace filtration systems for Parker's
onboard aircraft fuel tank inerting system, which will be fitted to new Airbus
passenger jets. Supply of these filtration systems to Parker is expected to
commence in 2008 and is in addition to the previously announced agreement with
Parker for similar systems for Boeing production aircraft. Porvair was selected
by Parker for its extensive experience with aerospace filtration applications.
The elimination of flammable fuel vapours in commercial aircraft fuel tanks is
one of the US National Transportation Safety Board's top priorities. Parker's
lightweight, onboard aircraft fuel tank inerting system addresses this issue and
can be easily fitted within existing aircraft designs. The system removes oxygen
from its source of engine bleed air, delivering nitrogen-enriched air into the
aircraft fuel tanks. The nitrogen-enriched air greatly reduces the risk of fuel
tank flammability. The Porvair filtration system ensures that the source of
engine bleed air delivered into the inerting system is free from particulate and
any liquid droplets.
Ben Stocks, CEO of Porvair plc said:
'We are delighted to have secured this contract with Parker Hannifin Corp. We
have been working closely with Parker to develop the filtration system for
onboard fuel tank inerting systems used on Boeing production aircraft, and we
are delighted to have now won contracts to supply Parker for both Boeing and
Airbus programs. This new contract continues our strategy of developing
technologies for new applications and further strengthens our aerospace
business.'
