PRUDENTIAL ANNOUNCES KEY APPOINTMENTS IN ITS
UK INSURANCE OPERATIONS
Prudential UK announced today that a review of the business structure and
strategy is being undertaken, as a result of which, a number of new roles have
been created.
Today's announcement outlines the new structure for the UK Insurance business
and introduces some of the senior management team who will be responsible for
taking the new strategy forward within a single UK business model.
Prudential will operate as one integrated business in the UK combining the
scale and strength of Prudential UK and Scottish Amicable. The new
organisation is being developed to improve effectiveness by removing
duplication and achieving greater customer focus, thereby ensuring that
Prudential is competitive in the one per cent world.
The new appointments to the senior team are:
* Director of Distribution (consumer market) - Gary Hitchens: (formerly
Director of Prudential Life & Pensions). Responsible for managing
Prudential's customer base remotely.
* Director of Business to Business - Andy Briggs: (formerly Annuities
Director for Prudential Intermediary Business). Responsible for managing
relationships with large corporate customers.
* Director of Intermediary Business - Chris Evans: (also Managing
Director, Prudential Europe). Responsible for managing relationships with
IFAs. He retains responsibility for Prudential's European Operations.
There are no changes to the structure and management team of Prudential
Europe.
* Chief Executive Officer PruLab - Kim Lerche-Thomsen: (formerly Chief
Executive, Prudential Intermediary Business). Responsible for the research
and development of new life and savings products. Prulab is a new product
development and management function within Prudential in the UK. In
addition, Kim will remain as Chief Executive of Scottish Amicable during
the period of transition towards one integrated business.
* Chief Operating Officer - Alan Cook: (formerly Chief Executive
Prudential Insurance Services). Responsible for customer services and
PruTech, the IT operation of Prudential in the UK.
* Director of Pensions Review Unit - Rosie Harris: (formerly Director
Change Management, Prudential Intermediary Business). Responsible for the
unit conducting a review of all personal pension and transfer values sold
between April 1988 and June 1994 following the Securities and Investment
Board's guidance in October 1994.
As a result of this new structure, a small number of senior managers will be
leaving the organisation. Rodney Baker Bates will step down from his role as
Chief Executive, Prudential Financial Services (PFS) to work on a consultancy
basis assisting the task of securing joint ventures. In addition, Susan
Melton, previously Director of the Pensions Review Unit, Stephen King,
Prudential Financial Services'(PFS) HR Director, Sean Tompkins, PFS Marketing
Director and Frank Schinella , PFS Finance Director will be leaving the
organisation in due course.
Further details about the future strategy of Prudential's UK and European
Operations will be announced in early November.
