Quintain Estates & Development PLC 27 January 2004 27 January 2004 Quintain Estates and Development PLC ('Quintain' / the 'Company') QUINTAIN APPOINTS NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR The Board of Quintain is pleased to announce that it has appointed Joan MacNaughton as a non-executive director with immediate effect. Joan MacNaughton (aged 53) has worked for the Civil Service throughout her career and gained wide-ranging experience and detailed knowledge of numerous government departments and policy sectors. Joan is currently the Director General, Energy within the DTI, a position she has held since January 2002, and is responsible for managing a department of around 500 people and a budget of £27 million. Previously, Joan has held senior positions within a number of other government departments including Director General, Policy - Lord Chancellor's Department (June 1999 - December 2002) and Chief Executive - Police Information Technology Organisation (April 1996 - June 1999). She has also acted as Principal Private Secretary to two Home Secretaries, the Rt Hon Kenneth Clarke and Rt Hon Michael Howard, between 1992 and 1995 and to Lord Whitelaw, in his role as Deputy Prime Minister between 1985 and 1987. Nigel Ellis, Chairman of Quintain, commented: 'When we announced our interim results in November 2003, we expressed our desire to recruit a non-executive director with public sector experience and we are therefore very pleased that Joan has accepted this position.
