- Notification of Major Interest in Shares

The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc.

On 22 April 2008, the Company received notification from Goldman Sachs & Co
(under the obligations imposed by Section DTR5 of the FSA's Disclosure &
Transparency Rules) that, as at 18 April 2008, The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc.
('GS Inc') had a notifiable interest in the voting rights attached to 39,095,011
Ordinary 13 8/9p shares representing 10.01% of the total voting rights in The
Rank Group Plc.

Notes

Indirect Interest (i.e. as custodian for its customers):

a) The interest in 38,322,616 shares (9.81% of the Company's total voting
rights) arose from an interest held by Goldman, Sachs & Co., a wholly-owned
direct subsidiary of GS Inc, acting as custodian for its customers. These shares
are, or will be, registered in the name of Goldman Sachs Securities (Nominees),
Limited.

Direct Interest (i.e. proprietary ownership):

b) The interest in 772,395 shares (0.20% of the Company's total voting rights)
arose from a beneficial interest held by Goldman Sachs International, a
wholly-owned indirect subsidiary of GS Inc. These shares are, or will be,
registered at CREST in account CREPTEMP.
