                      RANK GROUP ANNOUNCES NEW CHAIRMAN



The Rank Group Plc announces that Sir Denys Henderson will retire as Chairman
following this year's Annual General Meeting, to be held on 26 April 2001.

Alun Cathcart will join the Rank Group as its new Chairman on 1 May 2001. Mr.
Cathcart is currently Chairman of AVIS Europe Plc, non-executive Chairman of
Selfridges plc and non-executive Deputy Chairman of Belron International
Limited. He will retain these appointments after joining the Rank Board.

Mike Smith, Rank's Chief Executive, said 'We are very grateful to Sir Denys
for his considerable efforts as Chairman of Rank for over 6 years. He leaves
behind a much more focused and financially robust 'new Rank' and departs with
our best wishes for the future.

We are very pleased to have attracted Alun Cathcart to join us as Chairman of
the Board. His proven skills and abilities in service industries, and intimate
knowledge of the consumer and financial markets, will help drive Rank further
forward in its determination to significantly increase shareholder value'.
