Rautaruukki joins major wind power project

Press release 24 October 2008 Rautaruukki has become a shareholder in wind power company Rajakiiri Oy, which plans to build two wind farms in Finland. Plans are already well advanced for a wind farm in Tornio in the north of Finland. There are plans to site the other wind farm near Ruukki's Raahe Works in an area indicated in the regional plan. If the plans go ahead, the 500 MW wind farm in Raahe would be one of the largest in Finland. "We're pleased to promote emission-free energy sources such as wind power, which does not cause carbon dioxide emissions during operation. Our company is also engaged in the construction of cleaner energy by delivering plates, flanges and components to the wind power industry and by playing a part in the development of cost-effective windmill towers," says Toni Hemminki, Vice President, Energy and Environment, from Ruukki. Rajakiiri Oy's earlier shareholders are Outokumpu Corporation, Katternö Kraft Oy and Etelä-Pohjanmaan Voima Oy. A decision whether or not to go ahead with the wind farms will be made after the permit processes and technical studies have been completed.
