Rautaruukki supplied a considerable amount of the foundation
structures for the quays and frame and envelope structures for
buildings at the new, 150-hectare harbour in Vuosaari, Helsinki,
which has been officially opened on 28 November 2008. Between 2003
and 2008, Ruukki delivered structures worth around EUR 11 million to
a number of different construction firms and contractors taking part
in the Vuosaari Harbour project.


Ruukki delivered around 23 kilometres of steel pipe piles with rock
shoes for the quay foundations, built in difficult ground conditions,
and 335 tonnes of steel structures for the ship ramps for this huge
harbour. The longest piles were over 30 metres and weighed more than
10 tonnes each. Pile deliveries were optimised in line with the
ground conditions and load-bearing criteria as the construction
project progressed.

Ruukki delivered steel frames, load-bearing profiles and wall
structures for four buildings and two canopies in the harbour area.
In addition, Ruukki delivered envelope structures for 16 buildings
contracted by different construction firms. The envelope structures
included a total of more than 61,000 square metres of sandwich panel,
load-bearing profiles and rainscreen panels. Projects included two
logistics premises and an office building for Nurminen Logistics and
a freight vehicle maintenance and office building, Rahtarin Puisto.
