Ruukki chosen for EUR 5 million steel structure...
Press release 17 November 2009
Metso's Power business line has chosen Ruukki as the steel structure
contractor for a boiler plant to be built for Kuopion Energia Oy. The
order is worth around EUR 5 million.
Delivery includes the manufacture and installation of the power plant
frame, together with the design, manufacture and installation of the
envelope structures.
The new boiler plant will be built in difficult, cramped conditions
on the site of an existing operational production plant. By
efficiently combining frame and envelope structure expertise, design
and installation solutions can be optimised at the construction
stage, which requires particular accuracy.
"Ruukki is a reliable partner capable of managing such a demanding
project. Ruukki's thorough study of the envelope structure contract
in particular was a significant factor impacting on our decision to
choose Ruukki as our contractor," says Arto Rantanen, Project
Manager, Capital Projects, Metso's Power business line.
The steel frame structures will be manufactured at Ruukki's plants in
Peräseinäjoki and Ylivieska in Finland, and the sandwich panels at
the Alajärvi plant in Finland. Work on installing the frame will
start in May 2010 and be completed in September. The boiler plant is
scheduled for completion in summer 2011.
The boiler plant is being built for a new combined heat and power
(CHP) plant in Kuopio, Finland. The power plant will provide district
heat for the city's network and electricity for customers of Kuopion
Energia Oy.
Ruukki has long experience of large power plant projects. Earlier
this year, Ruukki supplied for example the steel frame and envelope
structures for Fortum's CHP plant in Pärnu, Estonia.
